How to Prepare the Week of Your ACT Test

Don’t Cram

Let the information you gained studying marinate, take a break and relax. It’s normal to feel nervous but keep in mind the most successful test takers are confident in their ability and trust their instincts when answering questions.

The Night Before

Items to pack in your bag:

  • ACT entrance ticket
  • Driver’s license or student ID (List of acceptable forms of ID)
  • #2 pencils and good erasers
  • Calculator w/fresh batteries, 4-function, scientific, or graphing calculators permitted (List of prohibited calculators)
  • Watch that does not beep or make noise
  • Water and a snack, avoid food high in sugar

You also want to…

  • Lay out your clothes and car keys.
  • Find directions to your testing center. If you are going to an unfamiliar location, familiarize yourself with the route and check for construction projects!
  • Get a good night’s sleep. If you have test jitters the night before, it’s okay as long as you got 8 hours of sleep 2 days before the test.

Test Day

  • Wake up early and get your blood flowing with a walk or some yoga poses.
  • No more studying, but you can stimulate your brain with some light reading.
  • Eat breakfast even if you are not hungry because you will need fuel to get you through the test.
  • Arrive at the reporting time (8:00am). You will NOT be admitted if you are late.

Take deep breaths and trust your instincts!

Good Luck!
