Claire: Science

Science Tutor

Background
I graduated from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities with a BS in Cellular and Organismal Physiology with a Pharmacology minor in the Spring of 2022. I’m currently continuing my education at UMN to pursue my MEd in Science Education and will be obtaining my teaching license in 9-12 life sciences. While in undergrad, I had the privilege of becoming a teaching assistant and research assistant for a Genetics course. Much of my research was centered around how writing reflections and being aware of specific themes within a course can help improve student performance.

I have been a tutor since 2019 and had the privilege to sit in on a 7th grade life sciences class throughout an entire school year (2021-2022). I absolutely love working with students of all ages, and I will be bringing that passion here to Homeworks with Students.

Free Time
During K-12, I was always in choir. Although I no longer participate in choir, I am a singer in a little “garage band” some of my friends and I have made! Along with this, I love listening to all genres of music and love discussing them. Other hobbies of mine include drawing, journaling, baking, and playing video games.

Goals
I absolutely love seeing the “lightbulb” moment in students when something clicks. Moments such as those are very inspiring for students, and I will help students reach those points to foster their curiosity. With curiosity comes life-long learning!
