Jennifer: Math & Reading

Math & Reading Tutor

Background
Hello scholars! I recently retired after teaching for 33 years in Minneapolis Public Schools. Way back in 1987, I received my BS in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, and more recently I’ve done masters work in Special Ed at St. Thomas. I love teaching math, reading, social studies and science.

All children can learn. I meet each child where they are, find out where they want to go, take them there and farther. Over the years, I have helped many, many students find joy and self confidence in learning, going from ‘I can’t do this’ to “I love to read!” or “I’m a real math whiz now!” Another important thing in my teaching is connecting children with their own interests and helping them grow into people who look at the world, ask questions and learn on their own. My heroes are Ms. Frizzle, Professor McGonagall, Anne Sullivan and Maya Angelou.

Free Time
For fun, I read middle grade and young adult books. Being outside, reading with my dog, Petie, in my lap is the best way to spend time! I love the sound of loons and watching hummingbirds.

Goals
One of my goals is to connect with young people, help them find their love of reading and learning and to help them grow their own interests so they can thrive! I am a teacher. It is not what I do, it is who I am.
