Kelly: Math & Study Skills

Background
I have a master’s degree in education from St. Mary’s University and an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the University of Michigan. I have been teaching and coaching middle school (and some high school) for 30+ years. I enjoy working with a variety of students, and I am one of those unusual adults that really enjoy working with and spending time with middle school kids. I consider myself a good “mechanic” or “doctor” and can help students quickly diagnose why they are having difficulty and teach/reteach the skills necessary to master any topic that causes them to struggle. My wife and I have four children and our oldest is on the autism spectrum. Through him, and my extensive years of experience, I have both the skill and empathy to work with a variety of special needs children. I am known for being patient and having an ability to make personal connections with my students.

Free Time
I love anything outdoors, and that includes motorcycle riding, wilderness camping, running, hiking, water skiing, swimming and cross-country skiing. I also enjoy reading, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

Goals
My primary goal is to help students be successful in math while at the same time nurturing them to gain a love and appreciation for math. I encourage and try to foster curiosity and want my students to never stop asking the bigger “why” questions of life.
