Rachel: Math

Middle and High School Math Tutor

Background
I am originally from Duluth and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire with a B.S. in Mathematics Education and later earned my M.Ed in Teaching and Learning from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. I am licensed to teach math for grades 5-12 and throughout my 12 year teaching career, I have taught 8th, 9th, and 11th grade math, with Algebra 2 being my “sweet spot.”

Even though I very recently transitioned from teaching into a new career of project planning for a nonprofit, I have always loved working one-on-one with students. I am passionate about helping students understand mathematical concepts rather than just memorizing procedures and will not give up until my students find the connection that clicks for them!

Free Time
I have 2 rescue cats (sisters) that I love to pieces! I enjoy all kinds of crafts, my current favorites being crochet and cross-stitch. I also enjoy baking and watching baking tv shows (Great British Bake-Off is a favorite). I recently learned how to play pickleball and look forward to playing more and improving my skills. I also enjoy spending time with friends going out to eat, watching movies, playing board games, and exploring Minneapolis.

Goals
Since leaving teaching, I have really missed building relationships and connecting with students while also helping build confidence and success with math. I am so excited to be part of the Homeworks team where I can experience those things in a new capacity!
