Stacie: Special Education

Special Education Tutor

Background
My name is Stacie LaValle and I’ve had many experiences to help me learn how to best support students. I started my career in purchasing with a large retail company, then decided to take some time to spend at home with my own two children. As I planned my return to the working world, I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Teacher Education. I started working in an elementary school as an AmeriCorps reading tutor, focusing on reading fluency and phonemic awareness. I transitioned into a paraprofessional role, supporting students in English Language Learning, and special education services. Once in this role, I realized my calling was to be a Special Education Teacher.

I went back to get my Master’s Degree in Special Education just as the pandemic was taking hold. I graduated from Grand Canyon University December 2021. I have worked in elementary school settings in a program, or self-contained room, as well as a resource setting, and most recently as a teacher for an inpatient mental health hospital. These experiences have given me the opportunity to build relationships with my students, and realize their full potential.

Free Time
As a wife and mom, I spend much of my free time attending my own children’s activities. I enjoy being outside, taking walks with our two dogs, and finding new paths and trails to explore. I enjoy reading a good novel, and spending time with my friends.

Goals
As a tutor, my goal is to understand the needs of my students and focus on the progress each student makes. We are all unique learners, so understanding the value of this and working to set and achieve reasonable goals is my priority.
