Geoff: Graduate student in biological sciences and general middle school sciences education

Geoff is a 2005 graduate from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a BA in History and a minor in Environmental Studies. After college he ski bummed out west in Utah for a few years, working variously as a ski instructor, a bouncer at bars, and a wilderness therapy guide taking troubled teens out into the deserts of Utah for months at a time without any matches, backpacks, or tents. He has worked as a backpacking guide in northern New Mexico and on off-grid apple orchards in the mountains around Eugene, OR. He has more recently worked as a paraprofessional in a junior high here in the Twin Cities and then with the AmeriCorps in a suburb of Seattle, WA as an AVID Academic Coach and in-school math and science tutor for a middle school. He spent the last couple years in Bemidji, MN where he worked with elementary students at the Boys and Girls Club of Bemidji, MN. While in Bemidji, Geoff was in school full time taking science classes at Bemidji State University to prepare for his teaching license in high school biology and general middle school science. It was there that he put the college preparatory skills he had been teaching to first generation college students out in Washington to good use, honing organizational and study skills that he can now pass on to his students. His passions include teaching, camping, canoeing, environmentalism, judo, and learning.
